Dhaka, May 11 (UNB) – Noted litterateur and National Professor Mustafa Nurul Islam who passed away on Wednesday night was laid to eternal rest here on Friday.
He was buried at Mirpur Intellectuals’ Graveyard in the afternoon following namaz-e-janazas at Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University, said his son Mustafa Imrul Kayes.
Earlier, in the morning, people from all walks of life paid their last respects to Nurul Islam, also a Language Movement hero, at Central Shaheed Minar.
Nurul Islam breathed his last at his residence around 9pm on Wednesday due to old-age complications at the age of 92.
The academic was honoured as a National Professor of Bangladesh in 2011 while he was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 1981 and the Independence Day Award in 2010.
Nurul Islam was a professor at Jahangirnagar University and Director General of Bangla Academy.
