Dhaka, July 12 (UNB) - Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Thursday launched a multi-commodity solar tunnel dryer plant in the city, which will enable locally-grown fruits and vegetables to be preserved for a lengthy period of time.
The innovation is part of a joint research by the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) and Daffodil International University’s Nutrition and Food Engineering department.
It was launched at the department’s Career Expo, held at the DIU permanent campus in Savar.
The minister said that the government is committed to ensuring food security for everyone, which was highlighted in the National Industrial Policy 2016, giving priority to agro-packaging and machinery manufacturers.
Special incentives are provided to agriculture entrepreneurs, as a result of which food processing has become an industry.
Currently Bangladeshi processed foods are exported to more than 140 countries.
Amu also added that Bangladesh will also reap benefits in the halal food industry, advising everyone to help grow the local food processing sector into a vibrant industry.
